This week we explored Organization and Hierarchy in Designing a Message. Chapter 6 of Creating Graphics for Learning and Performance is very interesting, with valuable suggestions. I use some of these principles when introducing the use of Styles in Word for producing an academic paper, show the structure of the text, formatting titles and subtitles etc.
It is really interesting to call the attention of your leaner to where you want him to look first, and then drive him through the visuals in the path you want.
The suggestions of building tables and charts in order to focus attention on the data, not the data container, to avoid chartjunk, 3D and pie charts, and to use ghost images are also precious.
